The Gateway - Capacity Building Resources Gateway

High-Level Project Summary

We have created wireframes of a suggested gateway for various audiences to be able to retrieve relevant data and/or find relevant courses for capacity-building, or building up knowledge and skills in support of the goal of capacity-building. As opposed to existing, disparate portals where users have to know where to look to find said portals, sift through and learn each portal’s system of organizing/categorizing materials, and keep up with any changes, the gateway is a consistent, centralized, easy-to-explore view of capacity-building resources.

Detailed Project Description

We created an example portal with consideration for ease of use and improvements over existing portals, as well as serving as a consolidated view of resources. Software wireframe implemented via HTML/JS/CSS manually, using d3-cloud for the landing page word cloud.

Space Agency Data

NASA's ARSET initiative and related site provided a starting point for courses and a possible way of presenting one agency's material. Finding cases of usability confusion or pain points led to some choices proposed in our solution.

Hackathon Journey

We learned about resources readily available not just for EO researchers but the general public, as well. Categorization of resources and going through the resources provided was tedious, but gave a sense of the current experience browsing EO resource materials (currently a somewhat disjointed process).
