Preventing Radiation With Aloe Vera Clothes

High-Level Project Summary

Radiation is one of the biggest problems in space so our aim is to prevent it with Aloe Vera because one of the features of it's to break radiation. In that way we created a role playing board game to amuse astronauts for their spare times.

Detailed Project Description


-WHAT IS OUR PROJECT?

While we were carrying out our research, we first reviewed the problems in space from the European Space Agency and one of the problems we agreed on here; We decided on "RADIATION". Later, while working on radiation, we decided to look at the dose of radiation and its effect on astronauts. We learned that the radiation dose in space is 500-1000 mSvol. If we talk about its effects on astronauts, we have seen that it causes various health problems, for example:

-Tiredness

-Energy Loss

-Nausea

-Aging when they return to Earth

We have seen that health problems such as health problems can be given as an example. Then we asked ourselves the question, "How can we prevent this?" And with the help of Gaziantep University, we learned that the "Aleo Vera" plant breaks the radiation. When we did more in-depth research on Aloe Vera, we learned that its protective effect is 400-900 mSv.


- RESULT OF OUR RESEARCH:

ISS (International Space Station) Astronauts spend about 6 months of their time on the ISS, which means 12 to 28.8 mSv per day. The number is not fixed as the radiation comes from multiple sources. Such as galactic cosmic rays (GCR) and solar cosmic rays (SCR). Altitude also affects radiation dose. For example, at 500 km on the ISS the average daily dose is around 50 mSv and they don't wear protective clothing. Considering that they should be comfortable while working and sleeping, their bodies should not be exposed to radiation, so we came up with the following idea.

Since the astronauts wear daily suits while on the mission and the ISS is exposed to a lot of radiation while passing through a certain region of the orbit, we aimed to produce clothes that would provide 24/7 protection with aloe vera. While designing these, we got help from a Turkish quilt designer (Aydın Tekstil) company for Clothes. This company helped us to make fabric with aloe vera. We planned to produce yarn with aloe vera in the production of these clothes and to make clothes from these yarns. For this project, we designed a game that is both fun and tells the subject.

While making our game, we were inspired by the game called dragons and dungeons. The narrator first tells the story and mission of the game, and the players try to finish the bug task with their imaginations and the items given to them. -LET'S SEE OUR STORY


One day on the ISS, when 4 astronauts wake up, they realize that there is an anomaly and somehow they find that they are in another compartment away from their mission in the ISS, their mission compartment has been taken over by the radiation monster. And astronauts have to somehow save their post.




-HOW TO PLAY AND RULES


Our game basically does not have any rules to play it's based on imagination


*The aim of the game is to defeat the radiation monster with the story and direction told by the narrator and take the mission place back. The narrator tells the story to the players and asks how they will cope with this situation, the players choose items one by one, explain what to do and how they will do it, and then roll the dice.The division from which the dice come, in short, determines their fate. And so the game continues.


Characters and Items:

-Astronaut 1,2,3,4

-Narrator




Astronaut 1,2,3,4=Characters whose main purpose is to save their mission






Narrator = The person we call the narrator tells what happens with the guide in front of him after the dice are rolled. For example :

-Like "Astronaut 2 pulled out his sword and attacked the monster and rolled the dice. Ohhh the monster sent you a radiation wave and you started to age".



ITEMS:

Astronauts are given various items and power-ups to fight the monster. The astronauts must defeat the beast with the help of these items and their imaginations.






-OUR MAIN AIM :


Our main goal, as we said before, is to develop a project where astronauts can both relieve their stress and benefit from aloe vera, so that both physical and mental problems can be prevented.

Hackathon Journey






HIII WORLD WE ARE 472-ROMA .


As 472-roma, our hackathon journey started last year. Last year we had a lot of experience such as solving problems, having so much fun and starting new, strong friendships. That's why we decided to attend this hackathon again. While choosing our project, we decided to find a solution to one of the issues that astronauts have the most trouble with. While deciding on this project, we experimented and learned new things. To be honest , we didn't just work, we had a lot of fun, but if we need to give an example:


-We started our work with dances

-We revived the characters in the game while designing our game :)

-We did karaoke

In this way, we had fun, cleared our minds and learned how to be a team. So why did we choose this challenge?

In this struggle, we saw that we were given the opportunity to both make a game and present our project idea, and we wanted to evaluate it.
