MicroBEANS - Stresses Of Space Travel

High-Level Project Summary

We (Microvia) have built and designed a game that talks about the topic of space's stresses and how different microorganisms combat them. Our team has come this far and prepared an interactive game, all the assets and designs included, to show how these wonderful organisms adapt to the struggles that space provides. The game has been designed with a specific purpose in mind. Even though our team wants to make sure the final product will be fun and entertaining for the users, the main goal was to create a thought-invoking experience. We have designed it in such a way that it showcases the potential of these organisms in future space studies.

Detailed Project Description

Our game insures that people recognize the importance of these organisms in uncovering the mysteries of space and what lies beyond. We used UNITY and C#. Our team wanted to incorporate multiple high-tech resources into making our goal a reality. We made our game from scratch using tools such as unity and designed everything, from the logo to our characters, using a digital tablet and a software called sketchbook. Communication was done through social media like discord so we could hear the input and ideas of each and every member of our team. We are aware that good communication is the heart of a good team.

Our game includes a section where we talk about and explain different stresses that astronauts go through during space travel. We had thought hard about what all microorganisms we would include and the information obtained from this helped us a lot in deciding what to do.

Hackathon Journey

We had a wonderful experience working with each other. Many lessons were learned and we felt as though we are now more knowledgeable on the topics surrounding space and technology in general. A big inspiration that lead to us focusing our resources on this challenge was due to our interest in space and all things surrounding science/technology. Our teachers had given us the push in the right direction and we took this opportunity to express our talents and passion for space.

Even the best of teams have to tackle setbacks and we were no different. Our team has had multiple hurdles we had to cross before we achieved our goal for this challenge. The most frequent problem involved the coding process. Since we were self-taught, this experience showed us where we had to improve and we took all these lessons to heart.
