Сosmological ideas of nomadic peoples on the territory of Ukraine

High-Level Project Summary

Nowadays, a person cannot freely visit the museums of Ukraine and view the collections due to the danger of losing the exhibits. But there is a social demand for visiting exhibitions. This problem is solved by virtual halls, where a person can get even more, because they not only store exhibits, but also allow to show more than a museum hall can show.We want to create a virtual 3D hall to solve several problems: the safety of exhibits and workers, the desire of people to visit the museum.Today, the interest of Ukrainians to space has increased due to the spread of the topic of a satellite that helps in the war with the occupier. Therefore, our exhibition will be popular.

Detailed Project Description

"Spase Baba" is a project about the visualization and mythologizing of outer space by our ancestors. Our knowledge of the starry sky is possible becouse of the Internet and open data from Nasa. But our ancestors did not have such an opportunity, so they embodied their reflection, after contemplating the starry sky and fixing cosmic objects in stone and household items. This is evidenced by the cromlechs around the mounds, stone babas and personal items that personified cosmic phenomena and the connection between man and the cosmos.

Therefore, visualization of outer space through the prism of the mentality of our ancestors was chosen as the goal of the project. The basis of the project was the materials from the archaeological collections of the DNHM named after Dmytro Yavornytskyi, creating a 3D projection of an interactive space in Blender 3D and Adobe Illustrator and using open data from Nasa to create a projection of the starry sky, which our ancestors probably contemplated. At the end of the project creation, we receive an interactive exposition of archaeological exhibits that could not be exhibited in the museum due to the war, which embodied the mythological ideas of our ancestors about the depths of space.

Space Agency Data

During the creation of the project, we used open data from Nasa and articles, images from European Space Agency site. Illustrations of the starry sky inspired us to create an interactive hall with exhibits that visualized the ideas of our ancestors about the cosmos and its connection with human. It was high-quality images of outer space from Nasa's open sources that gave us the opportunity to create an interactive space for a virtual exhibition.

Hackathon Journey

We have come a long way: from the idea we were inspired by the maps of the starry sky and the exhibits we saw on the territory of the museum to a developed idea with mock-ups of 3D models and an interactive space.

This is a new experience for us, we discovered and improved the skills that each of us had. Sometimes these skills became unexpected news not only to other team members, but also to ourselves.

New challenges awaited us at each stage of idea and concept development, we coped with them thanks to hard work and teamwork.

We would like to thank the organizers who encouraged us to take action. We also thank our manager, who became a person who guided us on our way and supported us in every way. Mentors are those people who helped us choose a platform and organize the course of action, we thank them for being our guides and giving important feedback regarding our idea and ways of implementing it.

We used images from Nasa and HubbleSite to build the dome in the 3D hall concept, we also used wet photos of the stone lady, which became the basis for our logo and a 3D model that we made in Adobe Illustrator and Blender3D applications.
