Rosa's Story

High-Level Project Summary

Our team made a website that tells a story of the journey of a girl named Rosa that went through harsh criticism and bullying from people around her. This story makes the information on the Mars Exploration Program seem more appealing and combines the art of storytelling to inspire others who come across it. It is visually appealing as it explains the functions of rovers, orbiters, and landers. This solves the challenge of educating and sharing one of NASA’s research projects and combining art into STEM.

Detailed Project Description

The website our team created tells the readers a story about an ordinary teenage girl who is experiencing discrimination because of her race and gender. She is determined to become a scientist, building rovers, orbiters, and landers that will assist humans’ exploration of Mars. Our page also informs the audience of a rover, a lander, and an orbiter that is currently in use to explore Mars. We made up a story with missions from real life in hopes that others could be inspired by the work, and join in to assist in discoveries. The website will include interactive information that allows viewers to tap and view explanations of certain inventions in the Mars Exploration Program. All the information is organized in a unique way to it will be easy to viewers to find them and not get confused. We hope to educate a wider audience on one of the inner planets, Mars, and inspire others to work in this field. Our team used Wix to develop our page to explain certain aspects of the Mars Exploration Program.

Space Agency Data

Our group referenced the data in NASA's Mars Exploration Program. We researched the rovers, landers, and orbiters that are currently in use. The rovers, landers, and orbiters are what inspired our main character, Rosa, to work as a scientist. Our whole group is interested in Mars and its environment, and that is why we chose this program.

Hackathon Journey

We would describe our Space Apps experience as challenging but entertaining. Our team faced many obstacles, including a lack of ideas and technical difficulties. However, we worked through it together and enjoyed the experience. Our team chose this challenge because we want to make science more interesting. In everyone's stereotypes, science and scientists are a bunch of boring people doing experiments. We want to prove that science can be displayed in a form enjoyable to a wider audience. Our team brainstormed many methods, and some of them did not go as we planned. We had to start the project all over again multiple times. We resolved that by simply coming up with new ideas. I would like to thank all of the members of our team for contributing their time and effort to the project. I would also like to thank the people who provided us with ideas.
