Image of the sound

High-Level Project Summary

The project “The image of the sound” is completely innovative and has no analog that can even be resembling it, hence we consider that the idea we came up with, will deepen and accumulate the interest in scientific knowledge, availability, and popularization, and such original and innovative methods are efficient for this information.

Detailed Project Description

Sound image Project description: The planets in the solar system have their own distinctive color and vibrational sound. The sound of space can not be heard because of the airless space there. However, the scientific team of NASA came up with an idea to record sounds of space by using their American space probe, in order to be perceptible to human hearing. Listening to these sounds are very interesting and within the framework of our project, we want to use them to create art. Namely: the sound of a particular planet will affect the water in the tank through the vibration of radio waves, where the “ebru” method of painting on the water will be created by mixing the three main colors in the universe and the characteristic colors of a particular planet. No one will participate in the creation of the painting, the oscillation of the radio waves will cause the water to vibrate, and the paint will create an abstract painting under the influence of the vibration. On 4 sides (east, west, south, and north) of the mechanism on which the tank hangs will be placed speakers, which will be issuing the sound of the particular planet. We will use vibration that leads to sound waves, and by those waves, the paint will be redistributed and create an abstract painting. This whole process will be filmed through photo and video cameras, which will be installed on a special mechanism on top of the tank, (see sketch) and in this way, we’ll finally be able to get the sound image. After this, experiments” received pictures will be exhibited in educational institutions, art museums, streets, galleries, and social networks. The specificity of the exhibition is as follows: A separate space will be created for each planet at the exhibition location, where not only the photos created in the process will be placed, but also the process of creating a picture obtained by the vibration of a particular planet will be shown on the monitor placed in that separated corners. As for the sound, listening to it is most likely to be possible through headphones and it’s also possible to emulate the exact technical procedure within the bounds of the exhibition. Moreover, at the exhibition, the created planet models of the solar system according to the final drawing may be presented as an exhibit. ( The results of an already created drawing can be transferred from the water surface to any surface using special techniques )

Hackathon Journey

The experiences we took from this little journey in the galaxy are valuable for us. We think we thought about major problems and had the opportunity to exchange our ideas. Our group has found out many new things about the sounds of space and the colors of the planets, thanks to the work of NASA scientists, which in turn means that we can find answers to all our questions here. The project gave us the opportunity to accumulate experience in teamwork. It gave us a new chance, that we haven’t had direct contact with before, and a new area of interest was revealed. And this experience will help us develop a broader perspective and skills when working on other projects in the future. Listening to the recording of the sounds of space, made by NASA, led our interest to find a connection with art.
