High-Level Project Summary

Availability has always been a problem in most scientific studies as it is hard to consider all audiences in your research, which is why our project aims to provide scientific material to neglected audiences through art.It was figured its best to use digital art with symbolic meanings backed up with a voice-over video to help younger audiences. The language barrier was also covered by recording the video in English and using subtitles for non-English speakers.

Detailed Project Description

Availability has always been a problem for most scientific

studies as it is hard to consider all audiences in your research which is why

the aim of our project is to provide scientific material to neglected audiences

through art.

It was figured its best to use digital art with symbolic

meanings to help younger audiences or audiences from different cultures voiced

over by a team member in a simple and innovative way with a subtle sense of

humor as not to bore the watcher, the language barrier was also covered by

recording the video in English and using subtitles for non-English speakers.

The team’s focus was the availability, so a magazine also

was made including the art and the script for people that don’t have access

to the internet or the deaf.

The team’s idea is to create an electronic visual library as

well as physical ones including most of NASA’s studies for them to be heard by the

broadest of audiences so for a start “Twins Study” was chosen as the first

study to be present through visual art as it is one of the most unique and

groundbreaking studies NASA has ever done and could be deemed interesting

without the need for advanced scientific knowledge.

The vision is for NASA’s studies to be more of a common

knowledge as well as interpreting art in STEM subjects exploring the fun and

beauty in them.

Hackathon Journey

Our Hackathon journey was quite interesting.. At first.. the team was in confusion about which challenge to choose.. and search for a solution for.. We were kind of convinced by the BUILD A BIOLOGY SUPERHERO, but this wasn’t quite on our page.. We took the advantage of having a digital artist and a web developer on our team to get inspired by another challenge.. TURNING STEM INTO STEAM.. We decided to use the language of art.. digital art.. as a way to make information available to various ages and cultures.. At first our solution was to make a video consisted of digital art photos.. voiceover.. and make physical magazines as another way for audiences who are into reading and have no access to the internet.. We then had an improved and more advanced idea as a solution and decided to make an electronic library consisting of NASA’s researches and studies.. explained in digital artistic videos.. a brief explanation of the study or research and its results.. and still manage to provide physical magazines to those who prefer the real methods of learning about something new.. One of the positive points of our team is taking the advantage of our members’ abilities into things they find easy to produce.
