Donation Map

High-Level Project Summary

Our team has developed a product that allows people to choose which areas of the world they would like to support on a map and make a donation. The product uses WorldView and FIREX-AQ data to display information about recent disasters on a map. Then, by combining the peripheral information as a layer, we visualize the disaster and its expected damage. Users who see this information can immediately make a donation if they wish to support the recovery of the area. The important point is that users can seamlessly donate to "specific disasters" at their own will. This product can be used to educate and encourage the public to think about disasters that occur with the Earth's changing climate.

Detailed Project Description

The Donation Map displays areas where disasters are currently occurring by combining NASA's open aerial data with peripheral information such as hazard maps, population by age, prices, and disaster funds. Peripheral information can be selected as layers. Historical data is referenced to calculate the estimated amount of damage. Clicking on a disaster location will display the time of the disaster, the number of victims, the estimated amount of damage, and the current donation amount. To make a donation, click on the button.

The concept of the Donation Map is to "provide reconstruction assistance to disaster-stricken areas as soon as possible! is the concept behind the Donation Map.

There are a certain number of people who want to help but do not know where to donate, or do not want to donate because they do not know what their donation will be used for.

This Donation Map solves this problem.

This product can also be used for education.

Specifically, it is very useful to know about disasters around the world, to be able to think about disasters from all aspects, to visualize the situation of victims, and to think about who you want to support.

By using open data, Donation Map is an application that makes it easier for everyone to imagine more realistic situations in disaster-stricken areas.

It is a product that allows people to think about the world, disasters, and the climate, and to immediately and directly donate to the recovery effort.

Space Agency Data

We looked at disaster data, in Worldview, and created a prototype map.

In addition, the expected amount of damages is expected to be calculated by multiplying historical disaster data with open data on the number of households and population in the surrounding area.

Hackathon Journey

We four members discussed how to solve social problems by focusing on two areas: data that can be taken from the air and education.

We chose this assignment because we had heard about ground-based and space-based data, but we did not know much about airborne data, which lies somewhere in between, and we wanted to explore this in more detail.

We had a hard time coming up with ideas on how to tackle this challenge, in part how to use airborne data to solve social problems and educate children.

We took a hint from the fact that Japan is a country that is very familiar with disasters, and we concluded that it would be a good idea to create a system that would allow us to more quickly donate money to communities and people affected by natural disasters that have occurred around the world.

Being able to participate in NASA Space Apps allowed me to meet many wonderful people and learn a lot more than just about space, such as about the town of Marumori, where the event was held.

I would like to thank everyone who was involved in this event, and I hope to make the most of this experience in my future life.
