High-Level Project Summary
MakeChange is the NEW SOCIAL NETWORK that will convince you that there are MANY SMALL ACTIONS you can do everyday that can have a positive impact on our planet. “MakeChange” is an app that encourages young people to do GOOD for the environment! Our challenge was to educate the public about earth’s changing climate. MakeChange doesn’t only solve this challenge, but it also does it in an entertaining and engaging way- users will receive a daily challenge to contribute to the climate crisis, and they will be able to compete with their friends and contacts. We believe that the SMALL ACTIONS that we do every day are what can generate a BIG IMPACT, and MakeChange is here to accomplish this.

Detailed Project Description
MakeChange is a social network app that encourages users to do small actions every day to improve climate change and be more aware about it.
With MakeChange…
- You will be able to create your own profile and connect with your friends, family and mates
- Every day, you will receive a notification, which will include, on one hand, pieces of information from NASA’s database, and, on the other hand, there will be a challenge related to what you learned for you to contribute your grain of sand on the improving of our planet- you will have 24 hours to achieve that challenge, and you will have to take a picture while doing the challenge to proof that you have actually made it
- As you have achieved the challenges, you will obtain ranking points and compete with your friends or contacts
- If you are first in the ranking, you will receive a prize such as a NASA T-shirt or souvenir
Makechange will help to spread small actions we can all do to help the environment. Because we want to demonstrate to the world that EVERY LITTLE ACTION COUNTS and that EVERYONE can contribute to leaving the planet better than we found it. With MakeChange, we aim that each individual is more aware of how climate change affects us and that they start taking little actions.
To develop our prototype, we have used a platform called “Figma”. It has enabled us to elaborate a visual representation of our app, clearly explaining the different sections in the app and all its elements. On the other hand, we have used Python language to synthesize all the information that will be shown in the app. It has been amazingly helpful, since NASA’s database had very extensive information, so that helped us organize and simplify the data we were provided.
Space Agency Data
Space agency data has been incredibly useful for the project. In this document you will find all details about the data used, how we used it and how it has inspired and helped our project: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1p8ccAx4Xf-IfFnGbhQxxeWsuTNLYHE3b9g_3riGc7mc/edit?usp=sharing
Hackathon Journey
NASA’s International SpaceApps Hackathon has been such an inspiring and fulfilling experience. During these three days we have been able to immerse in the world of astro-hacking, meet people from different backgrounds, learn so much from one another, and so much more. We have been able to learn so much thanks to the different profiles that are in our team.
We chose this project because we are all very interested in solving the climate crisis. We believe it is crucial to start to act NOW and that, by starting little by little, we can generate a massive impact.
Our team is made up of three youngsters and three adults. We believe it is important to obtain synergies between generations, to help and to understand one another, because, if different generations start working as a team, as a community, we will be able to make the impact even bigger. On the other hand, each one of us has a talent they can contribute to the group, which has helped us so much in problem resolution and role distribution.
Lastly, we want to thank all organizers for making this possible and for providing us help and energy when we needed it. We want to thank NASA for sharing such interesting research findings with us. Lastly, we would like to thank SpaceApps for this incredible opportunity that has impacted us so much and so positively.
