TAKE FLIGHT: MAKING THE MOST OF NASA’S AIRBORNE DATA APP DESIGN CONCEPT

High-Level Project Summary

THE PROBLEMThe public is not well educated in what can happen on a global climate scale should we increase or decrease certain drivers such that directly affects earth.THE SOLUTIONDesign a platform where The Arctic-Boreal Vulnerability Experiment (ABoVE) data can be used by the public and businesses to predict the affect on the immediate and global climate. Once the projection has been done there will be education opportunities to see what change can be made to directly affect the driving factors.

Detailed Project Description

With our design concept users are able to adjust climate drivers to see the direct impacts it has on the environment. The concept will use ABoVE data set to make projections. Furthermore, once users move the different climate drivers and see the effects as result, there is an educational opportunity to show what can be done to prevent a trajectory towards climate collapse.

ADJUST THE CLIMATE DRIVERS

The user can adjust the drivers (temperature, precipitation, co2 and rainfall) in real-time to see how they will impact the environment. This is designed to be an educational tool that provides insight into environmental impacts such as lower yields, elevated temperatures and less rainwater. By altering one or more of these impacts on an extensive map, users will be able to experience how it affects their immediate environment.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

A user will be able to learn more about the environmental impact based on the drivers they adjusted. The information available will help explain how the impact affects their immediate environment as well as what can be done to mitigate it.

Space Agency Data

We only made use of this PDF as a reference point of our concept. The main concept stemmed from the vulnerability and resilience framework.

Hackathon Journey

It was exciting to attend a hackathon hosted by NASA. Although our agency's focus is on designing world-class experiences we still felt we can contribute from a solution and creativity point of view during this hackathon. It was amazing to have our designers together to solve problems that can have global effects.

We'd like to thank Rene-Peter Masoen for extending an invite to our agency.
