Learning Through the Looking Glass - dream as big as Cosmos!

High-Level Project Summary

We are a group of enthusiasts who want to expand people's knowledge about space. We hope it will make people as excited about Space as us.Space is a mystery not only to us but to scientists as well. It holds so much beauty and wonders, and we need people to be more excited and involved in expanding our knowledge of space. Our app is designed to be an interactive game that will help people expand their knowledge of space. We will give you a particular cosmic body, that you will have to find on our space map. It is a fun game where you can get better at space directions and get to know some interesting facts.

Detailed Project Description

Our app is designed to be an interactive game that will help people expand their knowledge of space.

We will give you a particular cosmic body, that you will have to find on our space map. It is a fun game where you can get better at space directions and get to know some interesting facts.

Home Page

We wanted users to have a journey that's why called our app SpaceWalker.

We wanted them to have options and we chose three categories based on types, familiarity, and based its beauty.

Guess Page

The game starts when a user chooses a category. You will be given some time to explore your surroundings. The place that you have to guess is an interactive space where you can walk around with help of your mouse.

Space Map

After the timer is up you will be shown a particular part of space, where you have to find a place you were given previously.

Score Page

After you chose a place, the app will calculate the distance difference between an actual place and your choice. It will calculate a score based on distance difference.

Webb vs Hubble

Afterward, you will be shown a picture of the place you were supposed to guess. The left side of a picture is taken by JWST and the right side is taken by Hubble Space Telescope, you can move the line to see more of one particular telescope's version. If you click on learn more you will see a detailed description of a place.

Place description

After clicking on learn more, you will get detailed information about a place.

Leaderboard

After getting scores you can see where you are in a leaderboard ranking across the world

Space Agency Data

We made extensive use of the WISE image gallery NASA resources library (https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/WISE/images/index.html), which provides most of quality images from the Space.

Images in the WISE image gallery inspired us with its infinity, how a little part of the space includes a big amount of incredible celestial bodies, which prompted out team to create an interactive game.

Hackathon Journey

How would you describe your Space Apps experience?

It was a refreeshing expirience. We have participated in the project at the local place that provided a platform. But there were a lot of presentation, so we were very thight on schedule.

What did you learn?

We learned that photos of space taken by telescopes are taken with different method compared to the regular cameras. They use a variety of tools and techniques. It is a fascinating concept that what we can see through the telescope is an echo of the past.

What inspired your team to choose this challenge?

A cosmos is such a big place with so many mysteries and this challange gives us an opportunity to explore it and share our interest with other people.

What was your approach to developing this project?

Our main idea was to make people interested in space. Thus, we decided to make an interactive game that can teach them of certain things about space and have fun. Main thing was to choose what type of game would be more interesting.

How did your team resolve setbacks and challenges?

We had to learn about differences of pictures taken by different telescopes. Each of us took responsibilty of certain fields and later combined our knowledge to create a fun game.

Is there anyone you'd like to thank and why?

We would like to thank first of all NASA Space App Challenge team for such an interesting challenge, also the Maker Space (Kyrgyzstan), who organized and provided a free working space for all the teams from Kyrgyzstan.
