Webb's Journey

High-Level Project Summary

We understand how important science and technology education is, specially for kids since they’re the most curious out of all age groups, our objective was to develop an easy, understandable and most important of all, fun way to learn about the capabilities of the James Webb Space Telescope.

Detailed Project Description

We developed a side view 2D vertical platform game that educates about the capabilities of the James Webb Space Telescope.

The player’s objective is to collect all of the telescope’s parts by jumping to build the full instrument and be capable to see its images.

Users can access it through the provided link to access our game with english and spanish language options as our mission is to make it as accessible as possible to get clear and concise information about the functionality and results of the JWST.

We hope our game is not only educational but also fun, we encourage people of all age groups to get to know about NASA’s work and for future generations to grow up knowing that they there’s still so much more work to do to learn about our universe.

We used Unity’s game engine to code using C#, we worked remotely so we made use of GitHub to quickly share changes made in our project, all art was made from scratch on GameMaker Studio.

Space Agency Data

We used NASA’s resources as we used Webb’s space telescope website to get all information about JWST parts and how they work.

Hackathon Journey

We started our team full of doubts, we often wondered if we would be able to make something that fulfills our desires as aspiring game designers, thankfully, the Learning Through The Looking Glass challenge was perfect for us since it had what we believe we could to the best at the moment, a serious game.

We were relieved when the Space Apps team gave us a community of like minded people who helped us all throughout these two days, we are so grateful to have been able to have any questions answered by the discord mods and by fellow participants.

We would like to thank everyone who joined and supported us through this challenge, we really admire our fellow game design students, teachers and family (we <3 you Diego). We would also like to thanks all of the Space Apps team for working so hard to make this event possible.
