Webb's Telescope Pictionary

High-Level Project Summary

We have developed a Pictionary game in which the player will learn about James Webb Space Telescope(JWST) and its capability to take high-quality images. This is a game in which the player solves a mini riddle by choosing an image from the given options. As the challenge was to develop a game, this Pictionary game is fun and educative. This challenge is important because this telescope takes space science to a whole new level. The images from this telescope help scientists make discoveries about the formation of the first galaxies and look through the dust particles of space objects.

Detailed Project Description

Webb's Telescope Pictionary is a game to educate the player about the magnificent capabilities of the telescope. The player can learn about the important parts, materials used to construct it, how it works, and its position in space. There are also images taken by this telescope that is compared to the images of the same space object from other space telescopes.

By including this information, we hope to teach people about the telescope itself and its capabilities and emphasize its importance.

We used Scratch, a block coding platform, to develop this game.

The rules to play the game are:

1. Always play in order - Door1, Door 2, Door 3

2. Read the clues below the door

3. Click on the Door icon repeatedly till you find your answer icon

4. After you find your answer icon, click the "Check " button

    - If the "Check " button turns into a checkmark, you got it right.

    - If the "Check " button turns into "Retry", then it's wrong. You can change the answer & check again by clicking the

"Retry" button.

5. Once you get it right, move to the next door's clues

6. Repeat till all 3 doors are discovered

The rules for the points are:

The player gets:

    2 PTS - First try

    1 PT - Second try

0 PT - three or more tries

Hackathon Journey

As this is an international hackathon organized by such a big organization - NASA, I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to participate and submit my creation to this event.

During this hackathon, we learned how to put things together, time management, a lot about the James Webb Space Telescope's abilities, and the study of space through the images sent from JWST.

One of the team members, Niveta, was very curious about Webb's telescope. She has been hearing a lot about this telescope for the past year. So, during her summer vacation, she sat down to dig deep and understand what JWST is all about. She was fascinated and started to follow updates about this telescope. When she found out one of the Space Apps Challenges related to her interest, she was inspired to do this challenge - Learning Through the Looking Glass.

The main focus and approach are to entertain, have fun, and educate all at the same time.
