ISS 3D Tracker

High-Level Project Summary

The International Space Station (ISS) is the major structure constructed by humans in space. Since its launch in 2011 into orbit, ISS has published many trackers, but they are closed-source or have limited features and capabilities. We developed an open-source web application that tracks the space station. The new features provide full 3D depictions of the earth, space station, and orbit. The application is available for Web desktop, mobile, and VR UX. This new feature will provide access to benefit areas such as education (schools, universities), software development, researchers (physicists, astronomers, and others), and general users.Site available: http://68.183.26.243/dartsaurs/.

Detailed Project Description

We developed a web application that allows users real-time tracking of the International Space Station (ISS) in full 3D. The features available on the website include live broadcasts direct from the ISS of the exact location where the ISS is passing, an interactive 3D model of the ISS, and depictions of the globe. When selected, the image will open a 3D model for interaction. The application is available open-source for web desktop, mobile, and VR UX, expanding the access to benefit areas such as education (schools, universities), software development, researchers (physicists, astronomers...), and general users. The tools used were: Programming language: Python; Framework: Django; Django REST Framework; TLE API; HTML5, CSS3 e JS Ecma6; Astropy; SGP4; PHP Version 5.

Hackathon Journey

The hackathon journey was a magnificent experience for the entire team. we met new people, made new friends and increased our network this weekend. The development of an important tool that inspires human to make a better world. The hackathon made us think and realize together and complete the challenge brilliantly beyond the expectations. Certainly, we transform ourselves, our thinking and our dreams to infinity and beyond.
