Starlight - Your Star Visualizer

High-Level Project Summary

The StarLight project was born out of passion, respect and admiration for the universe and the humankind's journey seeking for knowledge. Our proposal is to dissiminate info about the constant changes in the night sky, making use of an interactive visualizer as our main tool , instigating curiosity in students and allowing them to develop their concept of time, space and reality. Following Newton's philosophy " If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants." , as such this project is dedicated to all previous intelectuals who contributed for the advance of science.

Detailed Project Description

Our project is mainly based on teaching people in a dynamic and interactive way, about stellar variation, in order to introduce the player to an interplanetary scientific world. Our journey will start from a space station, our explorers will be able to find constellations and discover the variations of light curves and cataclysmic variables of each star around him, following their map. But our explorer will have to complete all the objectives of the games in addition to carrying out the quizzes to unlock a new map of stars and constellations, they will be able to compare their maps with the maps of other "friends" explorers and have fun with the content provided in each intellectual entertainment.

Space Agency Data

As for our concepts, they were based on the data from the following resources; "Kepler Space Telescope", "Introduction to Cataclysmic Variables (CVs)" and "Introduction to Light Curves". The revious sources helped our project as a pillar for our understanding of the topic, some that we've never had any contact with.

Within our demo we utilized a preset from an iris flower sepal, as a demonstration of how the tool would react to the coordinates of the stars and their qualities.

Hackathon Journey

Trough our journey during this Hackathon, we encountered many challenges, it was rush, but even though, this expirience was a valuable, happy and memorable one, the laughs, the brainstorm, and networking that were born in this past two days will be remarcable for all of us, we'd like to thank Marco for supporting our team in the most difficult times, the time we spent with him was also a time we will cherish until the end. Our last thanks is directed for Nasa's Space Apps developing team, we thank you all for this great oportunity, without you these memorable days wouldn't have existed.
