Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

High-Level Project Summary

Our project was to develop a visualizer tool where in there are attributes on complex concepts such as stellar variability and represent how dynamic the night sky really is. Growing up I have rarely witnessed real stars "twinkling" or have never observed any constellation, From this suppressed thought came the idea of developing solely a visualization tool which would elaborate and show us how constellations really are. And with the help of current technology (Augmented Reality) I have integrated the app to show the end users the real locations of coordinates of all the 88 constellations available in the International Space App Data. Our project's goal is to reach all space enthusiasts.

Detailed Project Description

We have developed an application with the help of resources extracted from the Star Walk application, Our project is integrated with several new technologies i:e; Gyroscope, and Augmented Reality and there is a scope on how to integrate Virtual Reality and make the application an XR technology. The application will be available on the google play store and can be downloaded on Android and IOS devices. We have to switch on the application and enable the gyroscope located on the top left corner of our screen, once the gyroscope is enabled we can calibrate the sensors and easily move in the direction wherein we can see the stars and the constellations available. And on the right-hand top of the application, we can find the camera option and by pressing it we can enable the AR version of the application. The major benefits of using this application would be the awareness generated regarding space and stellar variability. We have a simple motto "Space is visible to everyone but the knowledge is limited to the reserved and we would like to change it" We have created the application using the open source Blender software and integrated the Java resource files and recorded the outputs using the OBS studio.

Space Agency Data

open data from NASA and/or one of the Space Agency Partners for 2022 (Australian Space Agency, Brazilian Space Agency, Canadian Space Agency, European Space Agency, Indian Space Research Organisation, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, Mexican Space Agency, National Space Activities Commission of Argentina, National Space Science Agency of Bahrain, Paraguayan Space Agency, South African National Space Agency).

Hackathon Journey

Space Apps was one of the most memorable and intriguing experiences to date, the fun, the opportunity to learn, the competitive spirit, and all the things we have learned are par from any of the stuff we had actually learned. Growing up the visibility of stars was zero as there were no stars visible to our naked eye and there was rarely any twinkling effect, now as a developer, I wanted no other enthusiast to set themselves back and encourage everyone to learn and fall in love with space. We have broken down the problem statement, taken the required resources and developed it. As a team of two, any conflicts we had or any challenges faced actually helped us to make the project better. We would like to thank our mentor Katapally Sai Kiran Sir for his extreme and unadulterated support on how to make the project better and how to own the project and has pushed us towards development through his extremely supportive and positive criticism. His ideology and his thirst for perfection has pushed us more forward than we thought we would ever get.
